[00:00:00] Speaker A: Your voice, your community station. You are listening to IPL radio.
[00:00:08] Speaker B: And we're back with Perth Property Bros. Property show in Perth with Carlos and Josh. And Josh.
[00:00:16] Speaker C: And we've got Jackie Wickham.
[00:00:17] Speaker B: Oh, I can't believe you're here with us. Jackie, welcome.
[00:00:20] Speaker A: Oh, thank you for having me on the show. It's. Oh, thank you for having me on the show. It's a privilege.
[00:00:26] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:00:26] Speaker A: To be with you too.
[00:00:27] Speaker C: So we've talked you up so much today, Jackie.
[00:00:30] Speaker B: So I talk Jackie up every. Everywhere I go, everywhere to everyone.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Yeah. She's certainly one of my favorite people. Big thank you.
I do feel that out in the community. So I have to say big thank you.
[00:00:43] Speaker B: Well, you do the same for us. Of course. Of course I believe in you. You know we were just talking about your philosophy of gifting well earlier, how connected you are as an ambassador to Margaret river.
How much you believe in that community and creating genuine products.
[00:00:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:00:59] Speaker B: That really are heartfelt and that love just goes right through the process till the end to the person at the end. Receives it with you, delivering it with your big smile and your radiant light.
I mean you, you can't buy that. You really can't.
[00:01:14] Speaker C: You do.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: You have to have the right energy, I think.
Yeah.
[00:01:18] Speaker C: So who is Jackie? Right. So Jackie, we have a bit of a blurb for you here. So Jackie is created behind Margaret river for you, isn't it?
[00:01:28] Speaker A: Yes. Margaret River Tea.
[00:01:30] Speaker C: A brand known for its beautifully curated standout gift boxes. Jackie specializes in creating memorable gifting moments that elevate property transactions, connect clients to brands and leave lasting impressions. From settlement gifts to customized branding touches, Jackie understands that a well chosen gift can be the final flourish that seals a long term client relationship. And she's done exactly that. Didn't we just talk about that, Carlos?
[00:01:58] Speaker B: Exactly. When I recommend Jackie to other real estate agents around Perth, I mean we. There's a group of us that collaborate very well. Buyers, agents as well, settlement agents. I put Jackie in front of.
[00:02:08] Speaker C: Yeah, Jackie was the first person actually she gifted for my first client, Jackie. I don't know if you still remember that.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I didn't realize it was your very first.
[00:02:15] Speaker C: My very first client. And she. And yeah, we were talking about the dog and everything and how I didn't even think about it. I didn't even think about it. And Jackie was like maybe we should put something in for the dog as well. And yeah, she did really well. It was really.
[00:02:30] Speaker B: See how thoughtful she is.
[00:02:31] Speaker C: Oh yeah.
[00:02:32] Speaker B: Who else would think of putting something in for the Dog.
[00:02:34] Speaker A: I think it is those special personalized touches that really.
[00:02:38] Speaker C: Yes, so. Yes, exactly right.
[00:02:40] Speaker A: So you connect with people, isn't it?
[00:02:42] Speaker C: I want to touch on that, actually. You talked about thoughtful gifting. Tell us a little bit about that.
[00:02:47] Speaker A: I think there's a lot of gifting around, but if you're really gifting with meaning and value and you really want to make a difference to someone, I think if you have the right selection, the right.
Whatever you're doing is matching, complementing your brand, the level of your brand, which I think everyone has to keep that in mind, that whatever you're doing, whatever you're gifting you, if you are portraying yourself as someone who is, you know, a professional, has high standards, you want that gift to reflect.
[00:03:32] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:03:32] Speaker A: On that.
[00:03:33] Speaker C: Yes. Yeah, that's exactly right. And I like. Why? Why? I like. You know how we mentioned thoughtful gifting.
All I have to do is just describe to Jackie, my client. I have to tell her, look, we are.
Oh, yeah, just like, look, I'm servicing this family. They have three young, two young kids. The kid loves this cartoon character. Remember I was mentioning to you, it was the cartoon character Paw Patrol. Paw Patrol. And immediately she starts thinking about what. What to get the kid and how to customize it. And so, yeah, it's really amazing. And again, you try to focus. Obviously, it's called Margaret river to you.
[00:04:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:10] Speaker C: And your lot of your gifts comes around from source.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I personally source the products. I don't have any.
I don't go to a one big distributor or I know the people that I'm buying from. I know like, and trust and I like their.
Their ethos on how they run their business and, you know, who they are as a person, not just products. So that's just as important to me.
[00:04:41] Speaker C: Exactly.
[00:04:42] Speaker A: But yeah, I'm down so often myself with having accommodation down there.
So I have, like, invested interest in not just the region, but also for my guests and for my gifting customers. So for me, I do lots of things. I go on tours, I taste products. I have people over. Like, we do com. Like big with groups, like try products. I have a product here actually to try, but not in my back pocket, but. But after.
But yeah, it's important to me. What. Not just me, because obviously I have my own personal taste and style, but it's important to me whatever, you know, a more sort of broad feedback. So it helps having guests as well because I know what they like and I know, like, the feedback they give me. So I also go on that too.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: I've never met a gifting person, a business, a person that cares so much. You have not, hands down. I mean, for her to ask, you know, what. What do the kids like or patrol or who am I dealing? She's. She's asked me in the past, too. Who am I dealing with?
[00:05:58] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: So you're absolutely right. That's very important.
[00:06:01] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:02] Speaker B: That really reflects on the. On the person. That's why we believe in you so much, Jackie.
[00:06:06] Speaker C: It gives that personal touch, isn't it? That personal touch and that little bit of oomph.
[00:06:12] Speaker A: I have to say, there is, like, psychology to it as well. So it's not just it happens to be that way, but, you know, if you do give a gift in a way that's meaningful, because it can have just as much negative impact if it's not.
To be honest, people won't forget as much as they'll forget a good gift. They won't forget a bad gift.
So. Yeah. I mean, like, it, like it does. It just makes it more human. The experience creates connection.
[00:06:44] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:46] Speaker A: And just that level of care changes that relationship.
[00:06:51] Speaker C: That was good. Like, again, coming back to that first client. Right. So she dealt with a sales agent for her house, the sales agent for the house that we bought. And then there was me. So there was three gifters, three gifts. But mine was the one that stood out.
[00:07:06] Speaker B: Yours was the best.
[00:07:06] Speaker A: Oh, that's lovely to hear.
[00:07:08] Speaker C: Mine stood out until today. She still talks about it.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: The others were just gifts.
Generally, when you're dealing with a gifting person in real estate, it's the first question that comes up is how much you want to spend.
You know, it isn't who are we gifting to and how can we make this special?
[00:07:23] Speaker C: Correct.
[00:07:24] Speaker A: And I think people are more forgiving as well. Like when you do show those thoughtful, kind gestures that maybe you know, along the track, because you don't always have that control. It's a long journey. There are things that can happen that you just could not stop from happening, but you can soften the blow and show that you care.
[00:07:47] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:47] Speaker A: And that can also equally be the other way, where everything's going great and you've looked after that person, but things out of your control again, you know, that's so true.
[00:07:59] Speaker B: That's so true. I've seen that happen time and time again.
[00:08:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:02] Speaker B: You do everything right.
[00:08:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:04] Speaker B: And at the end, something completely nothing to do with you, but you get lumped with it.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:09] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:08:10] Speaker A: So that's another way.
[00:08:11] Speaker B: One of those. Last year, from memory, you did I.
[00:08:14] Speaker A: Do remember that one.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: That was a whopper.
[00:08:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:19] Speaker B: But you're completely out of your control.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: So there's so many reasons really, to.
To make that connection with people. Plus, I think it breaks down the barriers where people will be more.
They'll.
They will definitely trust, like, and be more, I don't know, keen to make conversation with you.
[00:08:45] Speaker B: So have that fondness and hopefully they become evangelists.
They go out there in the community and talk about. Rave. Well, they rave about.
[00:08:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:08:53] Speaker B: The service that we gave as agents, the gift they received, the person that delivered it.
Yeah.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: I do have.
I do have, like, one company that have been. And they are in real estate, in property, and they've been with me for six years come December 20th. So.
And now he. I really just get the budget. And unless it's something, you know, out of or something more personalized, I decide myself. I get the meth, I get everything, and then I do the rest.
[00:09:28] Speaker C: So, again, all your products are sourced and everything from Margaret.
[00:09:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:32] Speaker C: See, what sort of gifts usually do you put in?
What's the go to?
[00:09:36] Speaker A: I guess well, on. On plowing through research. Food is still quite high up there, and wine, just that sort of area. And you have to be. I mean, we'd have to say that Margaret river, with so many wineries, such a huge focus, so many wards that have been won internationally and nationally, that they do. They do it well.
[00:10:04] Speaker C: So I don't know how you actually source down to the one. Isn't it to say, this is the one wine that I'm gonna give, or do you actually give out all these different wines?
[00:10:12] Speaker A: No, I do. I do have a local.
I do have a good connection with St. John's wines and Church View.
And there's another local one, Gordo's, and I just love. Because Both Churchview and St. John's wine, they both have a sustainable focus and great people. Nice, great. You know, they have really good ethics. And so to me, that, like, really does draw me in and the product is amazing. So, yeah, so they are my go to St. John's and church View Winery.
[00:10:54] Speaker B: So you touched on your guests earlier. So obviously we're referring to your property. You're in the property market in Margaret River.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:11:02] Speaker B: As well.
[00:11:03] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: How have you found that? I mean, how long you've owned that property? For a few years now. You've done a lot of work to it. Your husband builder.
[00:11:10] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:11:11] Speaker B: He's done an amazing job there. I've stayed at this property.
How property values there in that estate of yours? Because There's. I did notice a couple of lots, some people half building.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:23] Speaker B: What's Margaret river like?
[00:11:24] Speaker A: I think it's quite hard to. Property is quite hard to come by. It gets snapped up really.
And from what I see, just in our own area, it's definitely getting snapped up.
[00:11:37] Speaker B: I think it'd be hard to build in Margaret River. I did notice one in several houses in several stages. But you'd have to bring a lot of these people in from elsewhere, wouldn't you?
[00:11:49] Speaker A: Well, there are a fair amount of trades and construction companies down there and even with like.
With like local building companies lots, there's quite a number of tradies.
Seems to fit in with surfing quite well.
[00:12:07] Speaker B: The last time I stayed at your place there was a lot. A lot of tradies were staying in the. In that whole area there.
[00:12:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:13] Speaker B: And next door in the caravan park. Because they were obviously working on a building project.
[00:12:17] Speaker A: Yeah. And yeah, certainly people do come from out of the area as well. I mean it's a supply and demand factor, isn't it? But.
And as we know, like building has been quite slow or trades have been quite hard to come by across the board.
[00:12:35] Speaker C: Is that the same down in Margaret river as well?
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Well, you still got that.
There are still new areas being built, so.
Plus blocks, you know, like.
[00:12:49] Speaker B: So there's a few subdivisions down there.
[00:12:51] Speaker A: Yeah, there's a few subdivisions. You've got VAs as well.
I'm not entirely sure what's happening in Augusta, but yes, it's a bit more isolated. It is.
[00:13:02] Speaker B: You know, it's interesting. Last time I was in Margaret River I went down there for a Rotary conference a couple of weeks. Weeks ago, which we talked about.
[00:13:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:08] Speaker B: I looked around and thought, this is so beautiful. I'd love to live down here and sell real estate. Only down here, but be a very competitive market. A lot of these agents have been around a long time.
[00:13:18] Speaker A: Yeah. And they have.
[00:13:19] Speaker B: They have roots back into preschool days with the local community.
Stock is limited in the township and then you're starting to get a bit more regional. You have to spread out up to Busselton, over to the coast, down to.
All the way down to Albany if you wanted to.
[00:13:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:35] Speaker B: Fairway. Fair chunk of area.
[00:13:37] Speaker A: I will say the real estate agent that we bought our land off, she. Susan Miller, she had. She was a long, long time, long time agent.
[00:13:48] Speaker B: Been there forever and a day.
[00:13:50] Speaker A: Stock and Preston and they'd been there for years. And if I mentioned her to anybody. Oh yes, Susan.
But he has retired though, with that.
[00:14:00] Speaker C: Being said, like property prices down in Margaret river is not cheap as well. No, they're quite expensive.
[00:14:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:06] Speaker C: I know a mortgage broker friend of mine had reached out to me as well saying that they've got someone wanting to put in an offer on a property for 1.3 mil.
And that's like closer to the river. Yeah, yeah, closer to the Margaret river, the river itself.
So I'm saying it's not cheap anymore. It's also getting up there at the moment.
[00:14:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
Would be since you purchased down there. Yeah.
[00:14:29] Speaker B: Like your, your property, surrounding properties.
[00:14:32] Speaker A: Yeah, they would definitely. They've gone up huge, like quite surprisingly in the beginning anyway, because we probably weren't keeping an eye on the market in that area.
[00:14:43] Speaker B: But it's a bit of a weekend hot spot, isn't it? For Perthes it's fine during the week, but when you get to the weekend you can't get a place at any restaurant, any cafe.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: But. But there again, that's why midweek is lovely too, isn't it? And winter likewise when it's raining. Yeah. See it does have a lot to offer. So I can see why people would want to go that distance down to Mugs and of course so many different events on throughout the year.
[00:15:16] Speaker B: Events.
[00:15:17] Speaker A: Yeah, festivals, festivals.
[00:15:19] Speaker B: Always running something.
[00:15:21] Speaker A: Yeah. And also you've got like marathons, you've got the Caped Cape.
Yeah. You've got like the Iron Busselton. Ironman. You've got so many things. There's another ride as well in the Busselton, sorry, Margaret river area. So there's a lot of things happening throughout the year. So you're never gonna or rarely will you go down there and you know, next month is the Readers Writers Festival. Then there's.
[00:15:47] Speaker B: Oh, that's a good one.
[00:15:48] Speaker A: Margaret River Pro Surf. Com.
So you know this, which is a.
[00:15:53] Speaker B: Strange one because Margaret river is nowhere near the beach, is it? It's a fair way.
[00:15:57] Speaker A: Well, Margaret river surf break is.
[00:15:59] Speaker B: There you go.
[00:15:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You've got Margaret river, river mouth. So that's where the river mouth meets the sea.
[00:16:06] Speaker B: The township is how far? 20 minutes, 15 minutes.
[00:16:08] Speaker A: I'd say 15 drive.
[00:16:10] Speaker C: Yeah, that's not too bad, I guess.
But I think I always enjoy the nice, the quietness, the relaxation, you know, there's always something to do. I'll just enjoy the drive, especially on Caves Road, you know, with all the trees and back by the sea. So it's always a very, very beautiful spot.
[00:16:27] Speaker A: When I was down in January for a couple of weeks, I always like to Try and do a tour or something because it just helps me to grow my knowledge of the region.
And so when I was down in January with my cousin over from Ireland, I just surprised her and we did the bush tucker tour.
[00:16:47] Speaker B: Oh, yes.
[00:16:48] Speaker A: That was so good. Highly recommend it. And leaving from the river mouth and you're going like, in canoes along, along the river and through to, like, the mangroves and.
Oh, it's just amazing. And then we stopped on the side of the river and all the information along the way and. And I was just a tourist with everybody else, which I quite enjoy, but it's good to hear what other people are saying. Oh, I, you know, what was your favorite place that you visited? What was, you know, your foodie journey or, you know, what did you do while you were in Margaret River? So it helps me to grow, you know, my knowledge of what tourists. Tourists are enjoying and what they like to do and. Because then you add them to your.
[00:17:34] Speaker B: Your suggestion book at your Airbnb.
[00:17:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:17:37] Speaker B: Things to do, things to see, places to eat.
[00:17:40] Speaker A: But when we. We also got to taste like bush tucker as well in the region. So it was a lovely experience.
[00:17:46] Speaker C: Nice.
[00:17:46] Speaker A: I did a great job.
[00:17:48] Speaker C: All right, so you're. You're listening to Jackie with the Perth Property Bros with Carlos and Josh. We'll go to a little bit of a break and we'll be back soon.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: Now watch this, Josh, your voice, your community station. You are listening to IPL Radio Perth.
[00:18:05] Speaker B: Property Bros with Jackie Weekend from Margaret river to you, Jackie. We're loving having you on the show. And what have you got here? So I've got some gifts.
[00:18:12] Speaker A: Yeah. So this is one of my gift boxes.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Lift it up a little bit because your camera is. Yeah, that's it. There's your camera.
[00:18:19] Speaker A: Yep. And yeah, as I was just talking about earlier that I always, I tried to. I don't always actually, but this jute that I wrap around twice is actually a tribute to my mum and my, My, My Irish relatives in Clara and County Offaly because they all worked hard there. And the jute factory was run by the Quakers actually kept. They introduced welfare and benefits, assisted widows. They did, like, great things. So it's tribute to my family and those Quakers.
And then also I do. My logo is my brother's glassworks. So he completed a series of stained glass in Burr in Offaly in Ireland. And this is one of his. And it's creation.
[00:19:14] Speaker C: Amazing.
[00:19:15] Speaker A: And I feel like creation works because, yeah, everything comes from the land and without it, we wouldn't have all the amazing things we have.
[00:19:27] Speaker B: Quite an unboxing experience, isn't it?
[00:19:28] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, what's this one here?
[00:19:31] Speaker A: I'd always try to pick natives and I tend to go for sustainable floristries so I grow like bottle brush and different sort of flora and fauna that I can add. So it's sort of seasonal so I don't always have it, but most of the time. Yeah. And I love just adding natives, so.
[00:19:56] Speaker C: So you actually grow all this in your own backyard?
[00:19:58] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:19:59] Speaker C: Really nice.
[00:20:00] Speaker A: Yes. Yeah, yeah. I like. I've got grevillea growing and like a number of other things and geraniums which are not native before anyone says that but they do give a lovely red kick sometimes. So. Yeah. But also I brought along with me sample too for us to try.
[00:20:24] Speaker C: Is that from Margaret?
[00:20:25] Speaker A: Yes, this is from Bethany's Nougat.
And what's the flavor? Handmade gluten free, 100% gluten free handmade Easter nougat which is what I had which was going in my gift boxes over the weekend.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: So that's going to be tasting like hot cross buns.
[00:20:46] Speaker A: And good for me because I. I am actually left buying hot cross buns the last minute and they'd sold out. So.
[00:20:54] Speaker C: I would love to.
[00:20:54] Speaker A: Should we try?
[00:20:55] Speaker C: Yeah. What's. What's in there?
[00:20:57] Speaker A: I guess so we have got. Well there would be almonds definitely.
We've got cinnamon, sultanas, currants, raisins, almond honey.
[00:21:10] Speaker C: All right, can't wait to taste it now.
[00:21:13] Speaker B: Off you go, let's do it.
[00:21:15] Speaker A: Would you like to taste it?
Sure.
[00:21:20] Speaker C: So this is directly from Margaret?
[00:21:22] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:21:23] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:21:23] Speaker A: Yes. I actually.
Fresh batch I picked up two weeks or a week and a half ago. It wasn't. Wasn't that long ago anyway.
[00:21:34] Speaker C: So would this all be made specially for you or just kind of pick it up as this particular.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: No, this was actually they do make quite like. They have quite big. They do make in quite still small batch but there is like a volume of it.
So Bethany Nougat also have their own wines and liqueurs as well. So definitely worth a treat visiting but yeah, it feels so good to. That was just made like has just been made and to be able to get that out to my customers for them to share with their.
[00:22:13] Speaker B: This is the part I find most amazing. There's so much passion behind Jackie and then these are the products sourced with love.
This is the end result. This is what our clients are actually receiving on settlement or purchase. Thank you very much, darling.
[00:22:25] Speaker A: I mean you can have more.
[00:22:26] Speaker C: Yeah, I'M assuming it actually smells like cross buns.
[00:22:31] Speaker A: Does it?
[00:22:31] Speaker C: Does it?
[00:22:32] Speaker B: It actually does.
[00:22:36] Speaker A: Well, I always have like little samples when I go there and.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: Good job, Jackie.
[00:22:41] Speaker C: Yeah, it does taste like CrossFit hot cross buns.
Amazing.
[00:22:48] Speaker A: And did you have a nice Easter?
[00:22:50] Speaker C: Yeah, it was good, yeah. Sorry, a bit quiet now because we just eating.
We're just enjoying.
[00:22:56] Speaker A: We'll keep some for.
And pool.
[00:22:58] Speaker B: Leave it here for the guys. They'll enjoy.
[00:23:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:23:00] Speaker B: Other people come into the station. Jen's coming in after six for her.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: All right. Okay. Yes. So everyone can have a.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: Everybody can have a little piece. Yeah.
[00:23:08] Speaker C: That's really nice. So you put this in your boxes, obviously.
[00:23:12] Speaker A: And I don't know about this one here, but there's one of the, like the fig nougat is. That's. That's one of my. The ones quite popular that I quite like. And that's like a gold medal winning, award winning nougat. So they just look beautiful. They're so well presented as well. Lovely products, lovely tasting, love. Did you think?
[00:23:40] Speaker C: No, it was really nice. It was a bit different, wasn't it?
[00:23:42] Speaker B: It was like eating a hot cross bun, you know. This is so much worse for you than a hot cross bun. This is like sugar and it's very sweet.
It's very.
[00:23:53] Speaker A: Yeah, it does taste like.
[00:23:54] Speaker B: Don't you think so you hadn't tried it?
[00:23:56] Speaker A: I hadn't tried it, no.
[00:23:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
That's really worth it. I would eat that whole thing like a big hot cross bun.
[00:24:02] Speaker A: I've tried the new girl, but not this particular one.
[00:24:05] Speaker C: So obviously it's more.
[00:24:06] Speaker A: Can I say that they went out like hotcakes?
[00:24:11] Speaker C: Yes, you can.
[00:24:12] Speaker B: There's Jackie.
[00:24:14] Speaker C: So tell. Obviously this is all seasonal. Right. So your. Your box as well becomes a bit seasonal. I'm sure winter it can do.
[00:24:23] Speaker A: Yeah. And also with the travel too, particularly in summertime, I wouldn't add chocolate.
There are some. Well, I say that there are some chocolate products that I would add, but I'm very careful about what I add.
[00:24:40] Speaker C: To be shipped so it doesn't end up in a pile of puddles.
[00:24:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:44] Speaker C: When it comes to the other end. Yeah.
[00:24:46] Speaker A: Yeah. So I delivered Australia Wide, but yeah, that is something that is seasonal that I change to suit the climate.
[00:24:54] Speaker C: Nice.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: And also it can be like that with relishes and.
[00:24:59] Speaker C: Yeah. So do you actually ship it? So you shipped it Australia Wide International as well?
[00:25:05] Speaker A: I can ship internationally, but it is quite costly.
[00:25:09] Speaker C: Yeah. 100.
[00:25:10] Speaker B: So it would be. Because look at the size of the package. I mean, last Year you sent a package over to Sydney for me. That's relatively easy.
[00:25:17] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, Australia. Australia wide, no problem.
But once you start heading overseas, and my experience has been in UK and Ireland, it's. It's no problem. Absolutely no problem.
[00:25:33] Speaker C: And.
[00:25:33] Speaker A: And I have definitely shipped them, but.
And people. Some people are happy to do that and they're happy to pay. Oh, and to Switzerland as well.
Yeah.
[00:25:44] Speaker B: This is a real estate client or just a normal.
[00:25:46] Speaker A: No, this is another.
[00:25:47] Speaker B: That's just another thing.
[00:25:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:49] Speaker B: Okay.
Incredible. It's certainly something that you're, you know, at the end of settlement, this is what you want to leave at your properties. We've got one coming up actually. So there'll be one of these sitting on the kitchen bench for the buyer and the seller. I'll take it to him myself.
So a lot of love in those boxes and you've given them to me personally as well. There was a, not, not a bad bottle of port from Margaret river, of course. Tasted like berries.
Yeah, it was like a berry port. It was incredible.
[00:26:18] Speaker A: I'll be honest with you. I think my husband Tom and I drank more than we've.
We've sold.
[00:26:29] Speaker C: So tell Jackie. So you obviously did hand deliver it to clients as well.
[00:26:35] Speaker A: Where possible within, like, sort of a certain area. I definitely do deliver to Perth, but beyond, like to the northern suburb, that's not always possible.
[00:26:47] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:26:47] Speaker A: So for those ones, they'll get shipped.
[00:26:50] Speaker C: So I guess what I'm trying to ask is, so when you hand deliver them and the client opens the door and see you standing there smiling with the box in hand, what. What sort of the reaction do you normally see?
[00:27:03] Speaker A: Well, I have never had the door closed in my face. It's always.
It's always very, very positive too.
[00:27:13] Speaker C: Have you seen someone all grumpy and stuff and then suddenly turn into a big smile when they see you a.
[00:27:18] Speaker B: Bit stressed at some point?
[00:27:19] Speaker A: Yeah, sure, yeah. Sometimes that is the case. But I've never.
It's super positive.
Super positive.
[00:27:26] Speaker C: Yeah. I remember someone else mentioning that that was the highlight of their day is always giving that gift to someone, watching that smile on their face.
[00:27:33] Speaker A: And I have had people say, which there was like, actually B2B, like business to business, that they've given the gift and the person that I've delivered to have just been going for absolutely horrible time and has made them very emotional and they've. They've really felt that kindness and needed it at that time and I guess that's it. We never know.
We never know what people are going through either, you know, not in the background.
[00:28:03] Speaker B: No, exactly. Ryan. It's a tough industry, I guess, you.
[00:28:06] Speaker C: Know, end of days. It's. Although we talked about it a lot for real estate. It's not just a real estate give back, it's for everyone, isn't it? All types of businesses.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:28:15] Speaker C: Even I give it off to my referral partners as well, to. Just to say thank you for, you know, being there for us, for our clients and, you know, we're very thankful.
[00:28:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:25] Speaker C: For that service and for, you know, for keeping that ongoing relationship.
[00:28:29] Speaker B: That's right.
And Jackie, like I said to you, we're in touch with it. We have a lot of referral partners through our BNI network. Through the work we do. I'm always putting it forward.
[00:28:37] Speaker C: Correct.
[00:28:38] Speaker B: Because most businesses gift.
The businesses that understand how important it is gift, they do often.
[00:28:48] Speaker A: And they don't see it as an expense, they see it as they're adding to their business.
[00:28:55] Speaker B: That's actually a really good way to potentially grow your business, to show them how to think of it in a.
[00:29:00] Speaker C: Different way and to also give it that personal touch. It really shows how much you have kind of grown together as referral partners, that you kind of understand them, their business and who they are as a.
[00:29:10] Speaker A: Person and that you, like, know and trust them, isn't it?
[00:29:13] Speaker C: Yeah, correct.
[00:29:14] Speaker A: Which is important.
[00:29:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:29:15] Speaker C: Yeah. So. And like, you touched on BNI because we were talking about bringing Jackie onto our chapter, wasn't it?
[00:29:24] Speaker B: So is some of our other partners that are competing. Competing for her. We're all sort of pulling.
[00:29:29] Speaker C: Exactly.
Every chapter has been trying to get her on board because of the work that she's done.
[00:29:35] Speaker B: Jackie Wickham is in demand everywhere she goes.
[00:29:37] Speaker C: Now, if you ever join the chapter, I am taking you on board. Right. It's not going to be. Carlos.
[00:29:45] Speaker B: You don't get to number one by giving away your visitors.
[00:29:51] Speaker A: I have been a visitor there quite a number of times.
[00:29:54] Speaker C: Yes, you have. I can. I can always try that. Carlos, Jackie was actually there for my presentation. Did you know that?
[00:29:59] Speaker B: Can you believe my presentation's coming up again?
[00:30:01] Speaker C: Yes. Next week. Is it next week?
[00:30:04] Speaker B: Not next week. No, next. So this week is next week's Mark Anthony, media boss. And then I'm. I'm on.
[00:30:10] Speaker C: And then you're on.
[00:30:11] Speaker A: Well, I think you had a record attendance. Did you know?
[00:30:15] Speaker C: Oh, yes, yes.
[00:30:17] Speaker A: For your presentation.
[00:30:18] Speaker C: Yeah. Like 54 guests.
[00:30:20] Speaker A: I heard that it was the.
[00:30:22] Speaker B: It was enormous.
[00:30:24] Speaker C: So he's aiming to double it this year, so.
[00:30:28] Speaker B: No, I'm not that Was a very intense day.
[00:30:32] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:30:32] Speaker A: Well, I did phone in in the morning to wish you luck and I was live from Margaret river.
[00:30:38] Speaker B: But it's coming up again. That's how long it's been. That was in September. I don't know where the time has gone. That was in September. Can you believe it?
[00:30:45] Speaker C: So we're going to have you there again in two weeks. I think Jackie to come on board to have. And you're coming in as my visit this time, Right?
[00:30:51] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: I don't think Jackie counts anymore because she's already been my visitor.
[00:30:57] Speaker C: Oh, I can try.
[00:31:00] Speaker B: Very cheeky there, Mr. Josh Anthony. All right, we're going to take a very quick break and we'll be back again with the one and only Jackie Wickham.
[00:31:07] Speaker A: Your voice, your community station. You are listening to IPL radio.
[00:31:14] Speaker B: And we're back with the Perth property Bros. Carlos and Josh, sales agent and buyer's agent.
[00:31:18] Speaker C: And the amazing Jackie Wickham, the gifter who has helped us a lot with our clients and we are very thankful for it.
[00:31:25] Speaker B: Jackie Wickham, Margaret river to you.
[00:31:26] Speaker A: Thank you for the privilege.
[00:31:27] Speaker B: The Perth's ultimate and premier gifting service, bringing Margaret river to you.
[00:31:33] Speaker C: Customizable to you.
[00:31:35] Speaker B: Customizable. All of these products are from Margaret river, sourced from businesses that you have a very close relationship with, don't you? You don't just buy and say, how many can I have? You form friendships, connections.
They call you for Easter.
[00:31:49] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:31:49] Speaker B: This is a very special gifting service, which is why I really wanted Jackie on the show. We work with her in terms of our properties. We're connected to real estate agents. So what sort of clients do you deal with, Jackie?
[00:32:01] Speaker A: So it's quite across the board, really. Obviously real estate agents, settlement agents, mortgage brokers, business coaches, web designers.
Really is quite a accountants.
I guess. I've done gifted banks.
Yeah.
[00:32:29] Speaker C: It's a very big range, isn't it? It is, yeah.
[00:32:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:32] Speaker C: So I guess we. We spoke about a lot about it. We can see your passion in the gift, Jackie.
[00:32:36] Speaker B: The passion forever. This is. Jackie is just a ball of passion and light. Yeah, that's what she is. That's why when we settle our properties, we send Jackie in.
[00:32:44] Speaker C: Exactly. And we were talking a lot about it. Offshore. And it will be her eighth year this year, wasn't it?
[00:32:50] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:32:51] Speaker C: So, Jackie, I want to understand, tell us how did it all start? Like what, what made you go into gifting and how, you know, what, what's how? Tell us a little bit about that passion.
[00:33:02] Speaker A: So.
So we built A property in Margaret river which took, well, probably not in current times, but it took nearly three years. And so during that time I had a lot of friends that would ask, make requests for me to go and get goodies for them.
So I was forever picking up, you name it, like from Gabrielle Chocolate, Vast virgin.
Like, why like Gordo's Wine, Church View. Lots of, lots of different producers.
I was going to. And then after a while, obviously I got to know the producers and I really like what they did and what they stood for. And.
And I had a huge focus on Margaret River Farmers Market and would often. I don't know whether I was starting a. Not a completely profitless run from Margaret river to Rockingham, but I was bringing back truckloads of Margaret river free range eggs.
[00:34:16] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:34:17] Speaker A: Apples. Yeah.
[00:34:18] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:34:19] Speaker A: I honestly, the apples from Iron Ridge Orchard were just unbelievable and they were like, you know, the difference between the supermarket and buying from the farmers. The margarita farmers just like has just a huge focus. Focus on offering the best. So there's like food, there's wine, there's everything at those markets.
[00:34:45] Speaker C: They've got a big reputation though, their farmers.
[00:34:47] Speaker A: They. Yeah, they absolutely have. In I think it was 2019, they actually won Farmers Market of the Year. Aw.
[00:34:54] Speaker C: So which is Australian wide or just wa.
[00:34:57] Speaker A: That is Australia wide.
[00:34:59] Speaker C: Wow, look at that.
[00:35:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:01] Speaker C: So that's great. Now how. How did the whole gifting thing.
[00:35:05] Speaker A: So. Yeah, so. So that sort of formed my love and passion for the region. I mean, I have to say we've been going down for years because my husband's surfer, so.
[00:35:18] Speaker B: But then talk about your husband actually not existing because nobody's ever met this man. He is the. The man beside.
[00:35:26] Speaker A: He does in Margaret river.
[00:35:29] Speaker B: The man beside this amazing woman. And I've never met.
[00:35:32] Speaker A: And he has two children.
We had two children together, so I'm still a complete miracle.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: Well, he's a five foe. He comes back tired. He's. He's got to keep doing things at home.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:43] Speaker B: And I'm sure you would hibernate a bit when you.
[00:35:45] Speaker A: As much as he might like to avoid those things. Yeah. And.
[00:35:49] Speaker B: Sorry.
[00:35:52] Speaker A: So. Yeah, so over a lengthy period of time, I, the. I absolutely grew to love the region and I just love the fact that we go down and the kids were out in the bush and making camps and down at the river and just that sort of lifestyle as well. And everyone has. Seems to have a focus on the impact they're making on the environment and they just want to do it better, like they care. And that also Grabbed me. So not just good tasting products, but also that level of care.
And then, so, yeah, so after that period of time, I was thinking, well, obviously there's a bit of a demand for Margaret river produce because I wouldn't be running like a headless chook, but picking up all this, yeah, these filling up the back of my car to return back to safety base.
[00:36:48] Speaker C: So, yeah, is all these goods, all these goods piled up.
[00:36:52] Speaker A: I don't actually know if I took photos of that time, but even my husband's like, what, what do you start? What are you doing? Like, you've got like a distributor from my river.
But yeah, definitely the passion grew and I sort of had worked in community for quite some time. Helping people was so I do love to help people. So it just sort of was an extension of that. And then I thought, well, I could offer the gift of Margaret river out of Margaret river to people, you know, that can't. Maybe they can't get down or they haven't been down for a long time, or they do get down a lot and love the produce and want to share that or have it themselves or whatever. And so I just sort of grew up from now. So I've got this idea. I'm gonna start a gifting business. What does everybody think? And they're like, oh, how are you gonna bring it together?
You know, what are you going to do? And I had a focus on what Margaret Farmers Market and like, businesses like Vast Virgin, who have really defined such beautiful quality, luxury, skin care, natural products.
And I've just expanded and grown from there.
And so, yeah, I just. For the first couple of years, I didn't really do that much in business. But from there onwards it started to sort of grow in that direction. But I do like personal gifting too.
So, I mean, I don't know how many times I have been there when someone has just has sent a gift for a sympathy gift and it's as important to me.
I feel, yeah, I do. I feel privileged that I can be there to just offer a little bit of comfort.
And if I possibly can and someone needs an extra couple of minutes or five minutes to talk, I allow them that space as well.
So people to me are important.
[00:38:59] Speaker C: Sounds like Jackie is a big deal down in Margaret River. It's probably best when we go down, we throw her name around a little bit.
[00:39:04] Speaker B: Every time I meet down there, she's giving me a list of places. Go to this place, tell them my name.
[00:39:09] Speaker A: Well, I like Cini Bakery. They just have, oh, my goodness. And they spoil me, Elisa and Chris and they just have the most beautiful produce in their bakery.
[00:39:19] Speaker C: I'm going to try this experiment. I'm going to go down to Margaret river and just throw my.
[00:39:23] Speaker A: You have tried.
[00:39:25] Speaker C: I'm going to try it this time.
[00:39:27] Speaker B: Get a couple of name back badges. They go down as agents.
[00:39:31] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. And just say, we'll be Jackie and see what we do.
[00:39:35] Speaker B: Jackie wanted me to order breakfast.
[00:39:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:39:39] Speaker C: The big one.
[00:39:41] Speaker A: Big breakfast, that's right.
[00:39:42] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:39:43] Speaker B: Let's put it on Jackie's account.
[00:39:44] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:39:47] Speaker A: Thanks for that.
[00:39:49] Speaker C: It's amazing, Jackie. I think it's, you know, it's nice to know where it all comes from.
[00:39:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:39:54] Speaker C: You know, the. Like I said again, it's that passion that you have for the gifting, isn't it?
[00:39:58] Speaker A: So I do love food as well. So that sort of goes hand in hand.
And you know, I might stop. Stop at a chef that I get produced from Romano, from Margaret Fine food. And he. I'll go in there and he's just baked.
I know, like lasagna or it could be, you know, cantaloupe or something like that. And I'm like, oh, do you have a sp. Bear One that I could buy or something?
Or tiramisu. Oh, my God.
[00:40:29] Speaker C: Nice. Wow.
[00:40:30] Speaker B: Do you work with any of the real estate agents down there?
[00:40:33] Speaker A: I've done a couple, but not on a regular basis. I have done a couple of things for Stocker and Preston and some business in Margaret river have gifted up in the city.
They might have a parent company.
[00:40:53] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. Like the Ray Whites or the. The More brand name.
[00:40:58] Speaker A: Yeah. So different businesses in that sort of way. And I've definitely done some gifting for real property agents.
[00:41:07] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:41:08] Speaker A: To thank tenants and.
[00:41:11] Speaker C: Oh, nice.
[00:41:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Which I'm always like over. I always love that sort of gifting because tenants don't ever get acknowledged ever.
[00:41:19] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:41:20] Speaker B: No, especially the good tenants that always pay the rent on time, look after the place impeccably, never cause any trouble or dramas or whatever. They're the ones that you, you need to look after.
[00:41:31] Speaker A: Yeah. And. And I won't say never because there are people that do real, you know, see that tenants are important, you know.
[00:41:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay. And it's. It's tricky to make the distinction between saying tenants and home.
[00:41:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:41:46] Speaker B: I find that in, in my work. I mean, we're dealing with people here and you know, most people are. They're going to be tenants or they're going to be on. They're going to be owning their own property.
[00:41:55] Speaker A: Yeah. And A gift to a tenant is like a huge wow factor.
[00:41:59] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:41:59] Speaker A: Because they're like really.
[00:42:02] Speaker C: They would not have been expecting it at all. Yeah.
[00:42:04] Speaker A: I did a gift for a tenant at Christmas and.
And the girl was. She was just like, I'm just blown away. We only moved in three months ago.
She said, I just cannot believe the landlord sent us a gift. But that impact.
[00:42:21] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:42:21] Speaker A: I would say will last for years to come.
[00:42:26] Speaker C: Yeah, definitely. I think, I think we've been mentioning about this. Isn't it like invest. Treat your investment property obviously like a one. It's like a business. But end of the day you're still dealing with people.
[00:42:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:36] Speaker C: Right. And also one of the foreign investor. Obviously you don't want your tenant. You to.
[00:42:41] Speaker A: Don't.
[00:42:41] Speaker C: You want. Don't want a high turnover. That it's not good. So you want a tenant to be able to live in there longer and you know, and these are the kind of kind gestures that you can give to obviously give them that thing like, oh, you know, we do appreciate you and feel free to stay because you've been a good tenant.
[00:42:57] Speaker A: Yeah. Tenants are so surprised of all.
[00:43:00] Speaker C: Yeah, no, that's good. That's a very good one.
[00:43:02] Speaker A: Or if there's been renovations being carried.
[00:43:05] Speaker B: Out because it can be quite taxing on their lives to manage kids. If you're working around a job site and probably been renovated, you're right. This is where you fit in perfect.
[00:43:15] Speaker A: Yeah. That is my experience like in renovations of landlords have gifted because they. They're aware, you know, that's been a big inconvenience.
[00:43:25] Speaker B: It also takes an agent to. To prompt.
[00:43:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:29] Speaker B: Doesn't it?
[00:43:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:30] Speaker B: Because, you know, the, the. The. The landlord is another degree removed.
[00:43:35] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:35] Speaker B: It's the landlord. It's the agent and the. And the tenant that generally working together pretty close.
[00:43:39] Speaker A: And there are good property agents and then there are.
[00:43:43] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:43:43] Speaker A: You know, property agents that are just doing a job. And so I'm allowed to say that we've connected.
[00:43:49] Speaker B: Well, connected. You've connected Jackie. I've connected her to property agents or property managers. Now you're working with. Because of this very reason.
[00:43:57] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:43:58] Speaker B: The ones that do gift. Well that actually think about inconveniences to a tenant or just want to reward them.
[00:44:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Or understand the value of a tenant.
[00:44:07] Speaker C: Yeah, 100%.
I really like it, Jackie. So.
So you do a lot of gifting obviously and you know, it's part of. You always like to be involved in the Margaret river community. Obviously you do a lot outside of this gifting a little bit about that.
[00:44:22] Speaker B: Touched on Mixed Palette.
[00:44:23] Speaker C: Ah, there you go. Tell us a little bit. Yeah.
[00:44:26] Speaker A: Yes. So I have got my fingers in a few bars, but yeah, no, I am the chairperson of Mixed Palette Inc. Art Group which operates just around the corner from Sound City Church, thanks to Daryl and Alison Malania and their church community.
And I'm involved in the Catalpa Festival, the project team and the Fremantle Fenians for Freedom, which also relates to those political Irish political prisoners in the period of the Catalpa Rescue in 1876, which I might add next year is 150 years. So it will be a huge big deal. Yeah.
[00:45:14] Speaker B: Could you briefly tell us about the Catalpa? Because I was lucky enough you gave me some tickets to a Catalpa play up in the Steiner school north of the river.
And I was. I was so impressed finally hearing the story and a lot of people actually quite unaware about this aspect of Irish history. Do you know, just a quick suggestion.
[00:45:32] Speaker A: Yeah. So I actually got involved through Laurie Smith and we were. We were actually. Laurie was actually helping us to find Mix Palette Inc. To find a premises, so a new premises.
So Laurie and I would chat a lot during that time and Laurie was.
He's so dedicated to retelling that story and the importance and the value that it holds to Western Australian history as well as Irish heritage and.
And just that sense of justice, really.
It was quite remarkable. And so Laurie kept like relaying the story to me and all what was happening and. And I was just like, oh, this. Oh my goodness. Because I myself from Irish backgrounds, so obviously for me it sort of resonated in an area that I would like to help too, but.
But it's quite remarkable. Yesterday was the commemoration, the commemorative service at the sculpture the Wild Geese.
Have you ever been there?
[00:46:48] Speaker C: No. I have to admit, no.
[00:46:49] Speaker A: No. So it's near Spill the Beans Cafe, Palm Beach.
It's just opposite Samuel Street.
[00:46:56] Speaker C: Okay. You have to.
[00:46:58] Speaker B: No, I haven't heard of it.
[00:46:59] Speaker C: Yeah, I have to check it out.
[00:47:01] Speaker A: Yeah. So every Easter Monday they commemorate. There's like a commemorative gathering to pay respects to those.
The people that managed to set to free themselves under quiet.
[00:47:19] Speaker B: It was amazing, wasn't it? They escaped from Fremantle Prison from memory and there was a ship called the Catalpa.
[00:47:26] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:47:26] Speaker B: That rescued them.
[00:47:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:47:29] Speaker B: I don't remember exactly how they got onto that ship, but they actually went back to America.
[00:47:32] Speaker A: Yeah. It was actually John Boyle O'Reilly. He was one of the.
So I. I don't want to give numbers just in case I get the figures wrong, but the Hugamont boat was the last ship that brought out Irish political prisoners from England to Australia as convicts.
And so basically they were sent here and the belief was they'd never be able to escape because it's so vast and you're surrounded by the ocean.
So.
But one of them was John Ball O'Reilly and they were in Fremantle Prison and he managed to be transferred to Bunbury and worked very well and was given privileges.
So with those privileges he was able to, with the help of locals and others in the area, to organize an escape or an escape was organized for him. And it was a whaling boat, American whaling boat, that took him to America. And that probably sounds quite easy because it was harsh and he had to hide out for a number of days. You know, it was like, with little food, you know, the climate, like it's, it's hard going.
And then he made it over to America and then he sort of got set the ball rolling to start making plans to get the six. Six of the prisoners out.
[00:49:12] Speaker B: That's right. Because he came back. Did he come back and John Ball.
[00:49:15] Speaker A: O'Reilly didn't come back? He couldn't come back, no.
[00:49:18] Speaker B: But he, he arranged the escape.
[00:49:20] Speaker A: Yes, he did. So he started off, he started a fundraising campaign and amazingly, like, secretively and this went far and wide. And because America had a huge, huge amount of Irish immigrants living there, so the support was there and the unfairness of the situation of why they were even sent there in the first place, and the harshness of the situation as well.
[00:49:52] Speaker B: That would have been like the news of the day. Yeah, you know, that would have been all over the equivalent of tick tock. All the time these Irish prisoners have been imprisoned in, in Perth, Australia, and then they're arranging an escape for them. A big.
A crowdfunding.
[00:50:06] Speaker A: Oh, exactly. Yeah, it was a crowdfunding. Crowdfunding, exactly. That. The start of crowdfunding.
[00:50:12] Speaker C: Yes.
Now we know where it started.
[00:50:14] Speaker A: But they weren't, they weren't considered high risk. So they actually were prisoners that were allowed to work in the garden.
And so over a period of time, months, this was all organized. A couple of spies, Irish spies in Fremantle and you know, just working the system and going. One of them going into prison, a supposedly businessman, as you know, he's got his biz like gone as a businessman and, and slowly but surely they put all the places together to, to get them out of there. And easter Monday in 1876 was the day that a horse and cart came and took them all to Rockingham, where the whaling ship had been organized. The Catalpa rescue was put in place and they had to get to Rockingham and then white little rowing boats were waiting for them there. So it was no easy task to even get to the boat.
[00:51:17] Speaker B: No, it wasn't. They couldn't just take the freeway down to Rockingham.
This was a hard. Yeah, this was hard Yaka.
[00:51:24] Speaker A: And it was all done through telegrams and, you know, like, say nothing was done immediately. Like it all took.
[00:51:31] Speaker B: Took time.
[00:51:32] Speaker A: Took time.
[00:51:33] Speaker B: Pigeons.
[00:51:34] Speaker A: Yeah, but they.
Yeah, they managed to get there. They're out in the rowing boats and like, sort of rowing vigorously and trying to get out of there. And James Bella, local, had seen them, that they were convicts. So he.
[00:51:47] Speaker B: Because they had to get to international waters. That was the key, the key to.
[00:51:51] Speaker A: This whole escape because it was an American whaling ship. They, The Georgette was the steamer that chased them and actually made it to them.
But by then the captain, Anthony, the.
That was, you know, that was in charge of the ship, he.
He told them, like, if you.
Because they asked them to release the prison Fenian prisoners, and he said, there's no one aboard. And they said, we demand you to release them. And he said, or we'll fire our cannon. And he said, you know, you fire on. On. You fire on us, you fire on America.
[00:52:39] Speaker B: It's an act of war.
[00:52:40] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, and very, very unhappy about the situation.
They left and off they went and they returned to. They went. Well, returned, went to America, arrived in America's heroes.
[00:52:55] Speaker B: Can you imagine the party they had when they got your heritage?
[00:53:00] Speaker A: It is.
[00:53:00] Speaker B: And, you know, there's a little bit of. Of this heritage in the twine, in.
[00:53:06] Speaker A: The boxes and the logo.
[00:53:08] Speaker B: And the logo.
Everything that makes Margaret river to you, the gifting service that it is you as an owner. And no, it's been a fantastic show to have Jackie here.
[00:53:18] Speaker C: Yeah, it's amazing. Yes.

[00:53:21] Speaker C: So, Jackie, tell us, how do you. How would our viewers or listeners, if they ever wanted to contact your service and give a gift to someone that they love, a business that they would love to appreciate, a tenant they would like to appreciate.

I was overwhelmed with that. Funny.
[00:54:58] Speaker C: Very glad to have you on here, Jackie. Obviously you can see your passion for, you know, gifting a lot of the social work that you do for the people. It's amazing. And hopefully everyone will, you know, be in touch and be able to get something customizable to them. And they are customizable, of course.
[00:55:15] Speaker B: That's the key. Well, I always sell the.
How important it is to have something that's come from Margaret river and to have Jackie facilitated because I believe in her so much.
[00:55:27] Speaker C: Especially in property, isn't it? Especially if someone from over east were to buy in WA and you give something from wa.
[00:55:34] Speaker B: This is why Jackie is so valuable to the Margaret river region, because she's an ambassador to the region. They actually let you into the Chamber of Commerce, didn't they?
When. When you're not a resident down there, you. Because you live.
[00:55:47] Speaker A: Oh, I'm actually associate member of the Margaret River Produce Association.
Yeah. But I do have a house, a property down there. But. But yeah, so that helps me to stay on the ground in touch as well with what's happening. And I think big things will happen for the Margaret River Gourmet side. It will just become like a big gourmet food bowl down in that region.
[00:56:18] Speaker C: They have the Margaret River Gourmet every year anyway. Isn't it like a chef's table or something that they do?
[00:56:23] Speaker A: Yeah, it was the gourmet escape. And now last year they, they had started another event called Paired.
Okay. Which runs in November, around the third week in November.
And that offers lots of different food eating experiences and wine experiences and. Yeah, so it's, it's like I said, there's a lot of. It's not just that the food and the gourmet food and wine and products is. There is, it is. There's so many events on to promote this area of Margaret River. So.
[00:57:08] Speaker C: Yeah, no, that's good. So basically what it means is if Joshua Carlos were able to go down to Margaret River. We just walk into any shop and say hey, we were Jackie, we're with Jackie.
[00:57:17] Speaker B: Put it on her account.
[00:57:20] Speaker C: Show us what's, what's good about it.
[00:57:23] Speaker A: And I must also say that Margaret riverdu sponsors the Member Wellness Prize for the Margaret.
The sorry the Member Wellness Prize, the connections wa psychology and counseling who hold the once a month presentations.
And so yeah like recognizing that focus of how important mental health is and understanding customers better as well. So but month that every month there are events are free to attend the offer professional education and so I'll put that out there as well. The next one's on the seventh Wednesday the seventh of May. But yeah, I, I'm, I feel I'm very privileged as well to sponsor the prize because we know that mental health is not an easy journey and if you're work working to help people they everyone the people that attend or mental health works in, you know, in general they're doing a fine job and good to be recognized and connectionsw is really good at that as well.
[00:58:36] Speaker C: So amazing.
[00:58:38] Speaker B: All right, well we've been talking to Jackie Wickham from Margaret river to you. Now Jackie's put in a song request. I'm going to put that song on before Josh and I come back and close off the show for another week. Josh?
[00:58:48] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:58:48] Speaker B: And next week we, we may be getting a builder in. We are builder or mortgage broker. We are undecided. We are booked out two months in advance. But we've had someone drop off of some unfortunate circumstances. But that's okay. We'll, we'll move on.
[00:59:02] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:59:02] Speaker B: And find something, somebody amazing like Jackie to bring him on the show.
[00:59:05] Speaker C: I think maybe it's about time we get a mortgage program this time.
[00:59:10] Speaker B: So here is what a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.
[00:59:14] Speaker A: You are listening to IPL Radio.
[00:59:18] Speaker B: Carlos and Josh for a final goodbye. Josh, what are you doing this week in property? You got something amazing planned?
[00:59:25] Speaker C: Well, it's another long weekend for us this weekend.
[00:59:28] Speaker B: Another long weekend?
[00:59:29] Speaker C: Yeah, it's another long weekend. So I'm actually going to take another break.
Not for the whole weekend though. Maybe Friday we might head down south but it's back to inspections and everything on Saturday and Sunday.
[00:59:40] Speaker B: We'll check in on you how you went when we get back.
I'll be doing home opens again. We are negotiating a few deals this week, working with some land in Helena Valley, a couple of settlements on the way. Look, there's some interesting things going on.
[00:59:54] Speaker C: And hopefully we've got a be able to secure a guest for Next week and I think it's about high time we get a mortgage broker in. So let's reach out to someone, see if anyone's interested in coming in.
[01:00:04] Speaker B: We've got, we've got so many contacts, everybody that works, our team, the other cogs in the machine, not necessarily sometimes the ones that we use directly, but people we know that we just think are amazing people that can add a lot of value to the show because we're all working in the property industry, even Jackie. Like this is such an interesting segment, getting to know Jackie a little bit more on the air. But Jackie, she works in with us as agents. She's one of those cogs, you know, that we work with at a certain stage of our property journey.
[01:00:35] Speaker C: I think no one knows about Jackie's position, especially in a real estate. You think that a real estate agent would be putting all these things together, but actually no, that may be the case.
[01:00:43] Speaker B: I know of agents that actually buy the boxes, buy the wine, just put it together to save a bit of money. But it's not about that, is it? No, it's about getting somebody like Jackie with her personality and her love and puts it into the gift to really take your service to that whole other dimension.
[01:00:59] Speaker C: Correct. So no, we really appreciate having Jackie here today and as you can tell, we are the property Bros with Carlos and Josh. So you can contact me anytime on Joshua Anthony.com on 0419-815575 and Carlos, you.
[01:01:17] Speaker B: Can contact me Carlos wapropertysales.com I am Carlos from WA Property Sales. My mobile number is 0419-77555 and you'll be listening to the Perth Property Bros.

[01:01:39] Speaker C: Tva, you too man. I think we're gonna get you to do the controls from next week onwards so you don't have to complain about my whole driving there.
[01:01:48] Speaker B: All right, my friend, here's a song to, to lead us out on that point. Good night everybody.
[01:01:54] Speaker A: You are listening to IPL radio.
